Which Type of Kindle to Buy?

It would be hard not to have heard of the Kindle Ebook Reader.  It has become the most popular item at all sold this holiday season at the world’s largest online retailer.  It seems more and more of us would like the convenience of reading whatever we want, wherever we like, without having to carry around more than one book.  With either Kindle reader you can carry thousands of books with you at all times.  Plus, you can instantly (well in a minute or so) download new titles (or old ones from your own online library) whenever the desire takes you to read something new.  Did I mention being able to highlight, annotate and store your bookmarks?  It does seem these Handheld Ebook Readers pack a lot into their small little packages.

So what is the difference between the best selling Kindle 2 Global Wireless Edition and the Kindle DX Wireless Reader?  Well, not that much really – it’s all about size!  The Kindle Reader Types are different in a few ways, some will totally determine which to buy whilst others will be less important to many folks.

Firstly if you live anywhere apart from the United States there is no choice, the only Kindle you can receive is the Kindle 2 Global Wireless Reader.  That’s not so bad, as this does everything (and a whole lot more) you could want.  It stores 1500 books, has enough battery power to let you read for a fortnight and wireless connectivity in around 100 countries worldwide.

For those residing in the States you can choose the Kindle 2, with its 6″ screen or the Kindle DX which is bigger with a screen of 9.7″.  It is still portable and only as thick as a typical magazine, but for may that larger screen is a real bonus.  If you enjoy reading electronic copies of newspapers the Kindle DX is particularly good and it even auto rotates so you can view those papers in landscape or portrait simply by rotating the reader!

The Kindle DX has the same wireless connectivity as the Kindle 2, but only currently in the United States.  In addition it holds around 3,500 books so if your library is that huge this is the reader for you!

Currently there is around $220 price difference between the two types of Kindle Ebook Reader, and that is likely to remain the presiding factor when deciding which reading device to buy.
