The Que Handheld Ebook Reader

Don’t worry if you have no idea what a Que Handheld Ebook Reader is!  No-one does really, well apart from the guys at Plastic Logic and the Cambridge University scientists that created the thing in the first place.  It’s been a decade in the planning and over $200 million in the spending, and still it isn’t here!

Not long to go now though.  On 7th Jan 2010 the world will be able to get their grubby paws on the Que Reader.  All it takes is an unspecified amount of cash (we guess around $500 but the price is still a mystery), and a ticket to Vegas.  You see the Que Ebook Reader is being unveiled at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show.  Until then much of its charms remain a mystery.

We do know the Que reader is designed with business in mind.  Being a vast touchscreen that can cope with PDF, Word, Excel files and so many more used regularly within the business world.  Following on from the huge success of other wireless enabled readers such as the Kindle and Nook, the Que is also wireless, using AT&T’s 3G network to offer fast downloads direct to the device itself.

The Que Ebook Reader will be available from Barnes & Noble, as too will ebooks to view.  With a wide range of formats recognised though you should have more choice about where to download new material from.  Documents can of course also be transferred from your PC to the reader too.

We cannot wait to find out more.  It will be extremely interesting to see how Kindle DX sales fare once the Que is released.  After all its even larger screen yet lighter weight makes it an impressive opponent for would-be Kindle DX sales.  Plus of course it will be a pretty tough cookie.  The technology behind the Que Reader is based on flexible plastics and is all encased in a rigid, shatterproof plastic case.  This should make it a lot more robust than any other Ebook Readers on the market today.
