Safe Insecticide – Natural Pesticides
Your views on gardening do not need to be completely organic to prompt you towards choosing Safe Insecticide products. But reducing the number of chemicals you’re buying and using will help your garden become a more natural, wildlife, pet and family friendly place to be. Make your insecticide natural and you are really helping restore nature’s balance in your local environment.
There are many ways to make your insecticide natural.
Using Plants as Natural Insecticides
You may chose to opt for a system of companion planting. Many plants offer their own degree of pest control and this can be utilised to stop pests attacking plants near them too. So for instance, marigolds will help deter the pests that enjoy snacking on your tomato plants, and similarly garlic will deter insects and fungal problems common to roses.
Similarly, you may utilize these plants’ own natural insecticidal properties and harvest them for use in your own homemade insecticide recipes. Bashed up garlic or chillies are commonly added to insecticide soap sprays such as Safer Soap. Their pungent aroma deters many insect pests.
Some plants can be extremely powerful pesticides. Tobacco is probably the most commonly used really strong natural insecticide. Soaking cigarette butts and using the filtered water is not entirely pleasant but it really does work killing insects when all else fails.
Essential Oils to Make Insecticide Natural
There are several essential oils which deter insects including tea tree oil, lavender and citrus oils. However they are a seriously expensive method of insecticide. Natural yes but economical? Not really.
There is one plant oil which makes an economical choice of natural insecticidal product, and that’s Neem Oil Insecticide. It is such an effective natural pesticide, that you literally need only a few teaspoons added to a gallon of water, with a tablespoon or so of insecticidal soap to make an extremely effective systemic insecticide which is completely natural. Ready made products can be bought which contain Insecticide Neem but to be honest it is a lot cheaper to buy the essential oil in bulk and add them to other, cheaper natural insecticide products.
Animals as Natural Insecticides
It may sound strange but there are animals which form extremely effective insecticides naturally. Diatomaceous Earth is one such product. It doesn’t really look like an animal though. In fact Diatomaceous Earth or DE is produced by grinding the shells of prehistoric sea creatures which have been fossilised.
This is one completely organic insecticide, natural in every way. It is safe to be around, and in fact can be bought in food grade quality, which is often used as a parasiticide, ridding both people and pets of intestinal worms.
Used externally as a barrier powder this natural pesticide forms a carpet of sharp particles which literally scarrify any insects which cross it. With their exo-skeletons ddamaged they quickly dehydrate and fall victim to bacteria and soil borne organisms. DE can be used on many plants and around the home to deal with a huge range of insect pests.
To make your Insecticide Natural does not mean choosing second rate products or having to get creative in your own kitchen. There are countless natural insecticidal products available that do work and do not cost the earth.
