Olive Oil as Moisturiser
Use Just Olive Oil as a Rich Natural Moisturiser
Did you realise you can use olive oil as a rich natural moisturiser?
Olive oil is full of antioxidants, vitamin E and lipids. Those are the things lots of moisturisers like to tell us they are full of too. So why not cut out the middle man and try using olive oil as moisturiser?
I realised when writing the post about the great Olivella Serum that I should have written this one first. Using neat olive oil as moisturiser, is what I’ve done for years. Olivella is a new find, and great though it is, neat olive oil is pretty darn fab too!
People are often worried about using olive oil. Beauty products of many types include olive oil.
And, since if you just buy olive oil from the food aisle you can ascertain that nothing nasty has gone into it, and where it came from. This may be a much better way to beautify yourself with olive oil. Face facts, most of the beauty products out there are adulterated with lots of undesirable chemicals and the labels are impossible to understand without a degree in biochemistry. Using food grade olive oil as a beauty product means you can get organic or local produce if you like. You’ll be saving on packaging and processing and bagging yourself a real olive oil beauty bargain.
Olive oil skin care is a massive industry because it works. Olive oil dry skin treatment is simple to demonstrate. Just massage a little olive oil onto dry elbows each day and see the difference.
Applying Olive Oil as Moisturiser
After cleansing, I would recommend either steaming the face gently or wiping with a very hot soft cloth. This heat will really open up the pores and help the olive oil to penetrate the skins surface. Then just massage a small amount of olive oil into the face.
Using olive oil twice a day is a great way to give your skin some moisture and help in the battle with wrinkles and aging. Olive oil’s high vitamin E content and known antioxidant properties can only benefit the skin and promote anti-aging.
But I have to tell you that for most of the year, I use olive oil as moisturiser only in the evening. This is because I am outdoors so much in harsh weather conditions. It is often very windy, hot and sunny. I need even more anti-aging and higher SPF protection during the day.
What really amazed me is that using olive oil directly on the skin is not at all greasy. Plus, I have really sensitive skin which will react badly at the merest hint of chemical concoction. I worried olive oil would be too heavy and block my skins pores and worse still cause blemishes. I needn’t have been concerned.
Olive oil is such a pure product it is great as a moisturiser for even the most sensitive of skins.
I would recommend using a virgin olive oil as moisturiser. Lesser quality oils may have more impurities extracted from the olive pulp by its chemically assisted milling. But any mid-price virgin oil is fantastic used as an olive oil moisturizer. And it is a very cheap alternative. You need such a tiny amount of rich olive oil emollient to smooth and nourish the skin.
Using neat olive oil as a moisturiser in the evening leaves me more pennies to spend on sun protection during the day. It’s great to go to sleep knowing I am using a 100% natural beauty product that doesn’t cost the earth. With so many people trying to reduce packaging, buy locally, live naturally and spend frugally, olive oil moisturiser has to be a good idea.
