Maintaining long hair is a lot of work. In order to keep long hair looking neat, clean, and beautiful, you should be aware of what it takes to properly maintain it. Apart from using quality shampoo and conditioner as well as regularly trimming for split ends, it is very important to know how to brush hair. You may think you know how to do such a simple task, but the truth is that there is a wrong way of brushing hair. If you want to ensure your hair is healthy and strong, you need to know the right way to brush it. Here are a few compiled techniques that are sure to help.
1. Pick the right brush. Hair brushes come in different styles, shapes, and types for different types of hair. If you have long normal hair that is not too dry and no too oily, you could use the a brush with soft plastic bristles with blunted ends to protect your scalp. As not to apply too much pressure directly on the scalp it is advisable to buy a brush that is not so hard that it hurts the skin on your head when you brush.
2. Brush from the bottom up. Most women are very familiar with this common hair care tip, but few men who grow their hair out long know that brushing top to bottom is improper. Brushing from your shoulder length hair to the top, reduces the risk of damaging tangled hair. By carefully brushing from the bottom of your hair you can take out all the knots without breaking hair and causing split ends.
3. Do not brush wet hair. If you have to brush right after a shower, be sure to dry wet hair with a hair dryer. Brushing when your hair is wet is a sure way to create brittle and weak hair.
